The Financial Literacy Program 2019
Monday January 7 – March 4 6:30PM - 9:30PM
This 8 week program teaches the basics of financial literacy in the arts. Led by Kristina Lemieux, Natasha Mytnowych and Audrey Quinn Mondays from 6:30-9:30pm.
A limited number of spots will be held in each of the first 6 courses for those who wish to participate on a one-off basis rather than in the full program.
From budget basics to payroll, you'll get accounting and bookkeeping know-how, as well as access to practical tools. In addition to the course work, each registrant will receive up to 4 hours of one-on-one time and access to the ongoing Financial Joy Office Hours (monthly from September to June).
Are you an independent artist, small ad hoc collective or non-profit interested in learning more about project accounting? Or an aspiring Artistic Director wanting to make sure you understand all the elements of running a company? Learn the theory, gain the skills, and build tangible tools over 24 hours of training with Generator. In addition to building a financial system specific to your project/company capacity and needs, you will learn the fundamentals of financial management and gain the confidence to expand those systems as your company and career grows over time.

We will go over the difference between sole proprietorship and ad hoc collectives and incorporation, and basics of GST/HST. You assembled the perfect team–hurray! But now it’s time to pay them, and you’re not sure whether you’re dotting all your Is and crossing your Ts. Find out who is an employee and who is a contractor, and the different payroll expectations for each. We will also cover types of agreements, payroll deductions and remittances, T4/T4a/T5 creation, and CAEA bonds. We’ll use example scenarios and simple worksheets to help you navigate the responsibilities of hiring people.
