How can performance artists connect with each other?
This Summer, as part of their Artist-Producer Lab Micro-Research Project, Erum recorded a conversation with their pal and one of their fav artistic leaders in the city, Kalale Dalton-Lutale [Artistic Associate Director at Factory Theatre].
“I've been thinking a lot about how little performance + theatre artists talk to each other in this city -- like genuinely talk to each other. What is keeping us from being more real with one another? How can we foster a culture that would enable us to have deeper and richer conversations together? What could await us on the other side if we got there? Why is the medium that bolsters itself as bringing people together IRL, often feel isolating to the ones who make and work within it?” - Erum Khan
Erum and Kalale discuss some of the communication gaps and barriers that might be keeping artists from knowing how to connect, using The Performance Gym as an anchoring case study. They weave through many topics, and make some pretty interesting (and fun!) stops along the way.
This conversation was originally released as a three-part series on instagram at @erumkhan but you can watch the full video below.
