Shakespeare In The Ruff is a Toronto-based theatre company dedicated to establishing an outdoor theatre tradition in the diverse neighbourhoods of the East End. Through original Canadian adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays, they create accessible performances in Withrow Park. These performances form the foundation for their community work - they play an active role through( in the East End Community by...) offering youth mentorship, fostering local partnerships, and providing a launch pad for artists in the beginning of their careers. Shakespeare in the Ruff believes that the depth of human understanding in Shakespeare’s work and the long standing presence of his plays in our culture and education system provide a perfect platform to bring together first-time theatre goers, more experienced audiences, and a whole range of artists to build a unique and collective community experience.
